Measure your roofline in Google Earth · about 2 minutes
Free, no app, no account. Google Earth's ruler gives you real feet.
Let me walk you through it — no sales pitch, just how
Press Start and I'll talk you through measuring your own roof, one step at a time. Sound on.
- Find your house. Type your address on the left and press the button — Google Earth opens on your roof.
- Pick the ruler. In Google Earth's left toolbar, click the ruler (Measure distance and area).
- Click along the roof edge. Start at one front corner, click each corner where the edge turns, end at the other front corner. Earth shows the length — switch it to feet if it shows metres.
- Type it in. Put that number in Front on the right. Want the sides or back lit too? Measure them the same way.
- Peaks: lights that run up and down a gable? Click up the slope to the peak and back down — it adds the sloped feet.
Two-storey house? Measure the upper roof edges too — every edge you want lit counts.
Or trace it on a photo — and see it lit
Screenshot your house from Street View or Google Earth (or take a photo), tap the garage door for scale, tap along the roof edge. We light it up and measure the front for you.
- Trees in the way? Tap the clock (See more dates) and pick a winter picture — leaves off, every eave showing.
- Take a screenshot — Windows: Win+Shift+S · phone: your screenshot buttons.
- Come back here and paste it (Ctrl+V), drop it, or pick it below.
Can't see your front from the street? Google Earth's 3D button looks down from above instead.
- Scale: tap the top edge of your garage door, then the bottom (its height isn't squeezed by an angled photo).
- Trace: tap along the roof edge where the lights go — start at a corner, tap each peak, end at the other corner. “New run” for a separate section.

Your own measurement, shown as a range — final footage and price are confirmed on site before any work. $10 credited to the job or refunded.
How it works
An address, a few ticks, a price
Open your house
Type your address and Google Earth opens on your roof, free, in a new tab.
Measure the edges
Use Earth's ruler along each roof edge you want lit — front first, then any side or the back.
Type the feet
The price updates as you type. Or trace a photo of your house instead and see it lit up.
Lock it or send it
$10 locks your quote and holds an install slot, credited to the job. Or send a free work order — no card.
How the maths works: feet you measure × the price per foot, shown as a range because a ruler on an aerial is close, not a tape measure. We confirm the footage on site before any work, and your price follows the confirmed feet at the same rate.

Estimator questions
How accurate is measuring in Google Earth?
Google Earth's ruler is usually within about 10% of a tape measure — that's why we show a price range. Trees over the roof, second-storey eaves or a missed gable can change the real footage. We confirm the measurement on site before any work starts, and your price follows the confirmed footage at the same per-foot rate.
What is the $10 quote lock?
Tracing your roof and seeing your price is free. If you like the number, $10 locks that quote and reserves an install slot. The $10 is credited to your job, or refunded if we can't install.
How much does permanent exterior LED lighting cost in DFW?
Permanent smart roofline lighting is $35.00 per linear foot, fully installed. That one number covers the app-controlled LEDs, the colour-matched aluminium track, the power supplies and professional installation. There are no hidden fees. Most DFW homes trace out between 150 and 250 feet.
How much do Christmas lights cost to have installed?
Christmas and seasonal string lights are $15.00 per linear foot. That covers the lights, the installation and the take-down after the season. Use the Instant Estimate page and flip the toggle to Christmas to see your own number.
